In on Friday evening, back on Sunday afternoon – that is enough for a full but unhurried stay.

Friday evening

Arrive, drop the luggage, out into the lanes. The Sassi are lit in the evening and noticeably quieter than during the day. A late dinner is standard here.

Saturday

The full city day: upper town, cistern, both Sassi, cathedral, a cave dwelling, a rock church. Plan a break in the afternoon – the steps add up. In the evening to one of the terraces for sunset.

Sunday

In the morning across to the Murgia for the view from the other side, then a late lunch. If you would rather not descend into the gorge, drive around and walk only the short paths.

Practical

Weekends are busier, especially Sunday lunchtime in the restaurants. Booking does no harm.
