Pompeii – Architectures of the Gaze

“POMPEI | Architetture dello sguardo” is a project by Antonello Di Gennaro, one of the better-known voices in contemporary Italian photography, curated by art historian Fiorella R. Fiore.

The exhibition is the eighth stage of MIPphest 2026 – “Fluid Horizons”, the 10th edition of the International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts. It continues the festival’s reflection on the relationship between contemporary photography, cultural sites and landscape.

The venue is the State Archives of Matera, which is more than just an exhibition space: the layers of documents kept there enter into a dialogue with the layers that Di Gennaro’s photography finds in the surfaces, fragments and traces of Pompeii.

Opening on Friday 25 September 2026, at 6.30 pm. Opening hours thereafter: 9 am to 1 pm and 3 to 5 pm. Admission is free.
