Viva Vittoria Matera
Monday, 16.02.2026
until Sunday, 22.11.2026
A community artwork made from knitted squares measuring 50 by 50 centimetres, created by the whole city – against violence towards women. The proceeds from selling the blankets stay in Matera.
The project aims to involve the entire community of the city in one large shared work of art: made from knitted squares measuring 50 by 50 centimetres, which stand for connections, stories and shared participation. This kind of social fabric is intended to raise awareness of gender-based violence – and to get people talking about it.
At the end, the blankets will be sold. All proceeds go to Tessere APS and fund projects that support women on their way out of violence and towards independence – arranged through the city’s equal opportunities services and run by the women’s shelter “Isabella Morra” and the City of Matera’s anti-violence counselling centre.
Anyone who would like to knit along or stay up to date will find a registration form on the project website.
The project runs throughout the year and is under the patronage of the City of Matera.
