The pizzeria sits on a paved lane in the Sassi. The name runs in large letters above the entrance, two wrought-iron lanterns light up beside it in the evening, and in front of the door stand little olive trees in terracotta pots and a chalkboard with the dishes of the day.

The dining room. Inside you sit under cross vaults of pale tufa at wooden tables with black chairs. Pendant lamps cast warm light onto the tables, a shelf full of wine bottles lines the wall, and an olive tree grows in the middle of the room. In the evening candles burn on the laid tables.

From the wood-fired oven. The oven is the heart of the place: the pizzaiolo slides the pizza on the peel right up to the open fire, and a few minutes later it comes out with a puffed, lightly charred crust. The classic is the Margherita with tomato, mozzarella and fresh basil; alongside it there is pizza with cured ham, rocket and shaved Parmesan.

To start and to finish. As a starter a caprese of ripe tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and good olive oil, to finish a tiramisù dusted with cocoa – with an espresso on the side.

Aperitivo. Early arrivals start with a spritz: a slice of orange, plenty of ice and a bowl of olives next to it.

The terrace. On mild evenings the tables are laid outside – under pale parasols, between olive trees in large pots, with candles on the tables and, across the way, the Sassi and the cathedral tower, which begin to glow after sunset.
