A harbour town on the Adriatic with an old town, a castle and fewer crowds than its famous neighbours.
Monopoli lies a few kilometres south of Polignano and is targeted less often by day visitors – which speaks in its favour.
What there is to see
The old harbour with its blue wooden boats, the town walls facing the sea, the Aragonese castle and an old town of white lanes that people still live in.
Swimming
Several small coves and sandy beaches lie around the town – for an afternoon by the water, the more relaxed alternative to Polignano.
Combine with
It goes well with Polignano a Mare as a single coastal day; both lie on the same route.
