Michelangelo Pistoletto: Love Difference – Mar Mediterraneo
Thursday, 07.05.2026
until Saturday, 28.11.2026
The “Mediterranean Table” in the rock churches: a mirrored table measuring 7.5 by 4.5 metres in the shape of the Mediterranean basin, surrounded by chairs from all the countries bordering the sea.
On show is a single, large work: “Love Difference – Mar Mediterraneo” by Michelangelo Pistoletto, better known as the Mediterranean Table. A mirror-covered table measuring 7.5 by 4.5 metres, whose curving shape traces the Mediterranean basin. All around it stand chairs of many different shapes – each from one of the countries that border this sea. The work has already been shown at the Venice Biennale, among other places.
The venue has been chosen with care: the rock church complex of Madonna delle Virtù and San Nicola dei Greci, made available by the Circolo Culturale “La Scaletta” – major exhibitions of contemporary sculpture have been held here before, from Melotti and Martini to Cambellotti and Matta.
The exhibition is curated by art historian Mariadelaide Cuozzo, lecturer at the University of Basilicata. It is supported by the Fondazione Pistoletto – Cittadellarte in Biella and the University of Basilicata; organisation and funding are provided by the company “Opera Arte e Arti”, headed by Enrico Filippucci.
