Michelangelo Pistoletto: Art as a Testimony of Dialogue
Saturday, 18.04.2026
until Saturday, 28.11.2026
Michelangelo Pistoletto returns to Matera after twenty years. At the centre is his 2008 “Founding Declaration of the Cultural Parliament of the Mediterranean” – read anew today. Until 28 November, free admission.
In 2026, Matera in Italy and Tétouan in Morocco are Mediterranean Capitals of Culture and Dialogue. As part of this, the Fondazione SoutHeritage per l’arte contemporanea is bringing Michelangelo Pistoletto back to Matera – the artist last visited in 2005, with the exhibition “Love Difference / Matera”.
At the heart of the project is one of the artist’s best-known acts: the “Founding Declaration of the Cultural Parliament of the Mediterranean”, first presented in Strasbourg in 2008 and read anew here in the light of today’s situation. The Mediterranean appears not merely as a geographical space, but as a symbolic and historical field – shaped by relationships, conflicts, exchange and ways of living together.
The exhibition has been created in collaboration with the Fondazione Pistoletto – Cittadellarte, the Institut National des Beaux-Arts in Tétouan and the Italian Cultural Institutes in Tirana, Tripoli and Algiers. Curated by Angelo Bianco-Chiaromonte, coordinated by Roberto Martino and Francesca De Michele.
Admission is free.
